Bite Me!

My favorite books right now are the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. I was hesitant to read them at first, despite rave reviews from friends. I mean, come on, Vampire books??? But after having them forced on me, I love, love, love them! As does a majority of the women in my ward. So when the Relief Society asked me to make a cake for an Enrichment talent show/display night, I came up with this cake. It is a poppyseed cake with Orange flavored Italian Meringue Buttercream. Yummy! The stem and leaf are gumpaste as are the baubles on the bracelet (replica of the one Jacob gives Bella for graduation.) I did make a chain out of gumpaste, but it didn't look so great and then broke, so the chain is metal. I couldn't decide whether to write "bite me" on it or not, as it was a church function, but since I put a little placard explaining the inspiration went ahead and did it. We'll see if I shock any little old ladies tonight.....

You are amazing! It looks awesome, I've had many a people in my ward and several of my sister in laws try to get me to read the Twilight series. I'm close to giving in!! I just have to tell you I made some cup cakes the other day for Easton's Birthday, and tried to line them all up to look like a 7. I tried to be creative, but Lance looked at it at said, "what is that?" So the cake abilitly obviously isn't in the family genes, you inherited all of it!!!

Very cool! How did you color the outside like that? Hand paint/ sponge or use a color spray? If you tell me you got an airbrush, I will turn green from envy.

Amelia, it is just lots of red food coloring with a touch of black. I froze it a little and then (tried) to smooth it with a hot knife. It did end up looking like brush strokes. but really it was me needing a curved spatula to smooth over the curves! No airbrush, its still on my wish list!

Wow. It looks awesome. Maybe you don't need a curved spatula after all!
